Trailside Galleries is proud to present a showcase of dramatic new oil paintings by master realist Jie Wei Zhou. This Chinese-born artist is nationally known for his figurative portrayal of Tibetan, Mongolian and Chinese people in traditional clothing. The exhibition runs throughout the month of July. Jie Wei Zhou was born in Shanghai P.R. China, and studied French and Russian style of art at the Shanghai Normal University and the Shanghai Drama Institute. He soon became a recognized artist in China but had a dream of painting and teaching in America. He sent rolled canvases to an American gallery where he earned the payment for his passage and became a permanent resident of the United States. Zhou varies his subject matter but keeps it authentic. He sometimes poses his wife and daughter in traditional Chinese clothing in daily life scenes. The artist attracts special notice with his depictions of tribal peoples of Tibet, Mongolia and China.

The annual Western Classics Show will include important new works of art that chronicle the historic and contemporary west. As in previous years, the show will focus heavily on contemporary cowboy scenes, as well as historic Indian subject matter. However, collectors can also look forward to seeing dramatic landscapes of the west and wildlife that are indigenous to the western United States. Howard Rogers began his fine art career as a highly successful illustrator on the East Coast, working on projects for national magazines and book publishers. He eventually moved west to paint full time, greatly inspired by the landscapes and cowboy lifestyle. Today, he is nationally recognized for his western paintings, although his subjects include figures, nudes, florals and wildlife. In 2002, he won the Colonel Richard H. “Red” Smith Award at the Western Visions Miniature show held at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, Wyoming. Trailside Galleries is very pleased to present a showcase of his work that will be on display throughout the month of August. An artist’s reception will be held on August 21 from five until seven in the evening.

Wildlife artist, Kyle Sims, is no stranger to the American west. A Wyoming native, Kyle has been studying and observing big game animals for a good majority of his life. Many artists have influenced Kyle’s work and success, from Terry Isaac to Tucker Smith and Carl Brenders. For the amount of time Kyle spends perfecting his work in the studio, he spends double painting on location. This plein-air approach has helped Sims to develop a very careful color palette based on the hues he has seen in the wild. Trailside Galleries would like to invite you to our Jackson gallery as we celebrate this fine collection of work. A native to the Rocky Mountains, Ralph Oberg captures the wildlife and landscapes of this region with beauty that rivals the world’s finest plein-air masters. For the past decade he has focused on plein-air painting as a means of learning the colors and values of the world, and how to capture a sense of the moment and place. In recent years, however, animal subjects have begun to reappear in Oberg's work, combining his natural drawing ability and accumulated knowledge of animals with a more impressionistic painting technique. Michel Godfrey is a representational landscape artist that paints from different perspectives and different times of day in order to capture and interpret the varying moods of light. Born in Germany in l958 and raised in North Carolina, he earned a BA in Fine Arts and began his painting career in oils and watercolors. Typically, he starts a major work using small oil studies done on location. On a series of painting trips in recent years, Michael has traveled to paint the quiet beauty of marshes along the Chesapeake Bay of Maryland as well as the grandeur of the Rocky Mountain ranges in the West. His work has been juried into the National Arts for the Parks competition Top 100 six times. In 1996 he won the Landscape Award and in 1998 he won the Bronze medal for a painting of Yellowstone National Park. American Artist magazine featured Michael Godfrey on the cover in an article "Techniques for Winning Landscapes" (Sept. '98). He has exhibited work at the Sea to Shining Sea Invitational, the 2004 Big Sur Plein Aire Show, The National Wildlife Museum Miniatures Show, the Peppertree Invitational and the Jackson Hole Art Auction. A staple in Grand Teton National Park, Bill Sawczuk spends his days studying and painting the landscape of the Jackson Hole valley as well as the surrounding Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. Based in Jackson, Wyoming, Bill’s subject matter includes horses, cowboys, wildlife and the landscapes of Wyoming. He also draws on his strong architectural background to capture the many historic areas around Jackson Hole including illustrious old barns and working dude ranches. Bill is nothing short of a marvelous plein-air painter; he has an excellent feel for the local surroundings and a deep rooted appreciation for this valley. He was the artist-in-residence at the National Museum of Wildlife Art in Jackson, Wyoming, and his work is to be featured in the 2008 October issue of Western Art Collector magazine. Born in Medina, Minnesota and raised in Bozeman, Montana, Smith has spent twenty four years surrounded by the incredible wonders of western wildlife and has mastered the art of its accurate rendering. Known for his photo-realistic interpretations of American wildlife, Adam studies his subjects with the acute eye of a scientist and recreates them with the gingerly hands of a painter. This young artist and traveler has really created a name for himself in the world of fine art and we are ever so pleased to introduce this brand new collection of work. Included among his new paintings are life-like acrylic representations of North American big game and waterfowl. Trailside Galleries is pleased to present its annual Fall Open House from 1-4pm on Saturday, October 18th, featuring an exhibition and sale of all new works by many of the country’s most distinguished western artists, including members of the Cowboy Artists of America.
As part of its Fall Open House festivities the gallery is honored to host a retrospective exhibition and sale of works by founding member of the Cowboy Artists of America, the late Joe Beeler. The body of work, which Beeler created over a span of almost five decades, consists of paintings, drawings and sculpture that he kept in his own private collection. The multiple winning award artist and Arizona History Maker passed away in April of 2006.
Chinese born artist Z.S. Liang has, in recent years, created a stir among collectors of western art with his superb historical Native American themes. He will be featured in a special one-man show of all new works during the Open House. All paintings will be sold by draw or silent bid.
Arizona artist Bill Anton will also be featured in a showcase of new works that focus on the life and times of the contemporary working cowboy. Anton is one of the most dynamic and collected artists in the field of Western Art today. The Fall Open House show will be on exhibit from October 13-25.

Retrospective Exhibition and Sale
During the Fall Open House on October 18 in Scottsdale, Trailside Galleries will host a special exhibition and sale of works by the late Joe Beeler, a founding member of the Cowboy Artists of America organization. Trailside Galleries’ long and successful association with Joe Beeler dates back to 1963 and the gallery is honored to be a part of the Beeler legacy. Thus, it is with great pride and with gratitude to the Beeler family that we have the opportunity to offer a selection of paintings never before seen on the market; oil paintings, watercolors and drawings, created over the span of some four decades that remained in Beeler’s personal art collection. Complimenting this collection is a select group of significant Beeler bronzes that are currently available.
A rare opportunity will present itself during our Fall Open House show in Scottsdale on October 18th. Collectors will have the chance to view and bid on an entire of small works by 22 members of the Cowboy Artists of America. The collection includes small oils, watercolors, drawings and sculpture by CA members, both past and present, including Howard Terpning, Ken Riley, Joe Beeler (1931-2006), Ray Swanson (1937-2004), Roy Andersen, Jim Norton and James Reynolds. The artwork was originally commissioned by Eddie Basha, a well known Arizona business man and long time patron and supporter of the Cowboy Artists of America organization. The entire collection will be sold by silent bid, with a minimum starting bid of $100,000.
